Kiva
Before I began photographing weddings, I made it a point to donate part of the profit from every exhibit to a noble cause. I now continue that spirit with the weddings I document. 15% of every client’s deposit goes towards loans at kiva.org
Kiva is a non-profit that works with organizations around the world to connect business owners and entrepreneurs in the developing world with individuals who finance their growth through microfinance loans. The loans provide working capital for the poor–a sewing machine, livestock, inventory, etc. And the entrepreneurs are empowered to work their way out of poverty. It’s a great long-term solution to poverty that gives people the tools they need to help themselves.
Thanks to my wedding clients, I’ve been able to loan to over 240 entrepreneurs in 40 countries in the developing world.
