If lightning struck your wedding venue 2 weeks before your big day, it could put a damper on things. Not for Joshua and Jennifer.
The Barr Mansion’s beautiful ballroom was hit and destroyed during a massive Texas thunderstorm. Fortunately the original historic building was left untouched.
And the wonderful people at Barr Mansion were quick to assemble the best reception tent you’ve ever seen, while the rebuilding of the ballroom begins.
The day turned out to be perfect for an early morning outdoor ceremony.
Thanks to Jen and Josh for their relaxed and graceful approach to the day, and the great ideas for some vintage and stiff posed photos (which worked perfectly in the location and with their vintage attire).
And thanks to Katie Luke for the 2nd set of eyes and some of these wonderful photos below:

Photo Booth for Austin wedding fantasticalness

Susan and Joshua got married yesterday at The Inn at Wild Rose Hall and we decided to implement the new photo booth setup. It was a great hit for everyone aged baby to great-great-grandmother. Here are some of my favorite first selects from the photo booth. More to come from Susan and Joshua’s wedding shortly.

Here’s an excited young guy with the custom-made Big Red Button. The booth can be controlled by Brett, a 2nd photographer, and/or anybody with The Big Red Button!

The new albums arrived to the studio this week and they are stunning. These will be the new awesome books we’ll be offering to our awesome couples.
Each album is printed photographically on archival photo paper, bound to a substrate for thickness and durability, built with micro-folds for lay-flat and gutter-free goodness, and covered in 100% full-grain natural leather.
Below are some images of the standard 10″ album and the 4″ mini-album from Sandra and Rob’s destination wedding in Costa Rica.

Allan House wedding of Sarah + Nik

Katie and I had a great time documenting the lively wedding of Sarah and Nik at the Allan House in Austin.
It was fun to watch notes being passed back and forth between the bridesmaids and groomsmen getting dressed in adjoining rooms. The notes got progressively more obscene colorful and entertaining.

Cooking, strolling, and rolling

Emily and Tommy had a great idea for their engagement shoot… do what they love to do.
We started with cooking some breakfast since their relationship includes so much great cooking together. And their stroll around Town Lake on a beautiful day made for some great images, including some full-on Pricess Bride style hill rolling.

Shadi and Matt had a lovely Bahai wedding just after New Years.
Vintage Villas provided a wonderful setting that overlooks Lake Travis in Austin.

Libby + Matt Wedding Day

A big thanks to Style Me Pretty for recently featuring this lovely wedding!
Libby and Matt had some wonderful DIY elements that piqued the interest of the SMP editors.

The preparation was at Omni Austin, ceremony at Central Presbyterian, and reception at The Wildflower Center in Austin.
There was a great moment in the Omni elevator after we ran into Quentin Tarantino, who was going to commandeer our elevator until he realized a bride was trying to get to her wedding. You’ll notice the bride and bridesmaids a little excited in the elevator after that run in.
One challenge with the ceremony was the limitation of the church for photographers, who aren’t allowed to go beyond even the first pew.
With this restriction, I decided to plant a remote-triggered camera behind the officiant, which I could control from the back of the church with an RF trigger. It provided some excellent coverage, including the example below with the best man handing off the rings.

Rehearsal + Dinner with Libby + Matt

Libby and Matt recently had me document their rehearsal at the historic Presbyterian church in downtown Austin, followed by a great evening at Lambert’s restaurant. As a talented singer, guitar smasher, and harmonica virtuoso, Matt fired up a foot stompin’ crowd pretty quickly.

Sarah and Dennis were married at Casa Blanca near Round Rock, TX.
